  5. Immigration Law Newsletter -...

Welcome to this month's issue of the Law Office of Spojmie Nasiri Immigration Law Newsletter. In this edition, we provide an important reminder about online passport renewals, an update on fees for travelers who lack a REAL ID, and a recap of the latest news about the firm and its impact on the community.

Highlights In This Issue:

Important Reminder About Online Passport Renewals

For those planning to travel internationally, many will opt to renew their U.S. passport online so long as they meet certain eligibility requirements.

However, once a passport application has been filed online, the old passport will be automatically cancelled and cannot be used for travel. So, if you plan on renewing your passport online, be sure to submit your application at least 6 weeks before any planned travel.

To determine if you are eligible to renew your passport online, as well as to learn about other important steps to take before traveling internationally, click the 'Read Article' button below.

Spojmie Nasiri Inducted to ACBA Board of Directors

On January 22, Spojmie Nasiri attended the 2026 Alameda County Bar Association Installation and Distinguished Service Awards Dinner at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center.

At the event, Spojmie was formally inducted into her role as a Director of the ACBA Board of Directors.

The Board is the governing body for the Alameda County Bar Association, which is the professional association for lawyers and legal professionals in Alameda County.

Spojmie's contributions in this role will facilitate equal access to justice for residents and help promote legal excellence amongst the legal community of Alameda County.

Now in Effect: TSA Charges $45 for Air Travelers Without a REAL ID

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has begun charging a $45 fee for air travelers who do not have a REAL ID-compliant form of identification. The fee covers the cost of alternative identity verification.

Travelers without a REAL ID must show another valid form of identification in order to travel, such as an unexpired passport, permanent resident card, military ID card, or photo ID issued by a federally-recognized tribal nation. Without an additional form of identification, travelers will not be able to pass through airport security without paying the $45 fee and completing the alternate identify verification process.
